The Happening…..hardly worth noticing

M.Night Shyamalan really needs to get his head surgically removed from his anus. If he could take some time out from enjoying the sound of his own voice and stop trying to put his mug on screen in his pitifully self gratifying cameos, he might get back to re-thinking what makes a decent mystery thriller.
The Happening is so void of anything relating to excitement, intrigue and thrills that it really deserves to go straight to DVD instead of cinemas. This would even struggle as a TV movie-of-the-week.
Where do you start? The characters are nothing short of annoying. Most of the roles are very badly miscast, including Marky Mark in one of his most forgettable and dull hero roles. The story was not only painfully predicatable, but even worse…wait for it….it delivered an environmental message. Lord give me strength! Keep that nonsense out of your movies dude. If you need to vent that, get yourself a blog that nobody reads and spare us all.
The shame of it all is that M.Night burst onto the scene a few years back with some stunning films. Sixth Sense was grand, Unbreakable improves with age and Signs was a brilliant subtle ride. Since then, he has falling madly in love with himself and can’t seem to pull away.
The Happening stinks.
